Two things, really. One, if I write something, and post it at night when no one will see it, is it cool for me to repost it in the morning? *This is a one-time deal for something I put some effort into. Now that I understand how it works, I won't do it again.* Second, what's the difference between saving something as public compared to private? Here's a coupe-ified Miata for your time

Saving something as private really just means you're not done with it - it's like putting it in drafts.
A smarter thing to do than reposting, if you're doing your writing at night, is to schedule the post to appear during the daytime. Just change the post time/date in the little box before you save as public, and it will appear then.

Not only is it cool to do. A repost of an interesting read should be recommended if you post it in the early hours of the morning

If it's something you think we would enjoy, absolutely repost it. It doesn't bother me in the slightest. As far as saving as public or private, I'm not 100% on that one. I usually save to public, so I don't even know if people can see my posts if I save them as private.

You can actually set when your post is displayed on Oppo before posting it. That would be my suggestion.
I believe it's located at the bottom of the text window where you type your post. Just click the little clock and set the time that you'd like your story to air.

repost/reshare if you want as long as it doesn't annoy people (usually if you're desperate one in the morning and one in the afternoon). Alternatively, you can change the post time.
private just means "draft" really, and then you can dig it up later and set a timer on it

If you write something that you want people to see you can schedule the post to go live at a time when Oppo is most active rather than reposting stuff.
Also saving to private puts it on your personal Kinja page and I don't think others can see it while public means, well, public.

How does one even repost ones own post?

That was going to be my next question.

I agree, I don't want to read the same post 2 or 3 times. I start reading from most recent to oldest and I normally look through posts from 1 min ago to where I left off yesterday. I don't want to see 30 reposts from yesterday every time I open up oppo.

It's not cool to repost? Also, how does one repost their own post?

Save as private = no one but you can see it. It will be saved in your "private view" tab under "drafts". One weird thing tho, is that if you save as private, and then make public without changing the time, it will basically back-date itself into oppo, which I've had happen a few times. Best way to avoid that is to just keep it on your personal blog, and then "share to kinja" to oppo.

You can "share to kinja" and then add another headline like "repost for the morning crew" or whatever. Then it shows a new headline, and your previous post quoted below that.

Not a big fan of reposts. I've seen one review come up again and again for months now, and it's just annoying. In general they scream "Look at me, I'm here!!!" and reek of desperation. If you write something larger that you think deserves more attention, post it when there is more traffic. But that's just my humble opinion.

That's the thing, is it's a fairly large thing that i put some effort into, and then posted last night when I finished it without thinking about it. It wasn't like a hey, no one looked at it the first time, I'll keep putting it up! kind of thing, I just screwed up when I put it up. I would have waited had I known it was an option.

Here's why I'm asking: Yesterday, I wrote a fairly substantial bit, however due to the wonders of electronics, it got deleted part way through, and I didn't get to re-do it until last night. At the time, I didn't realize I could set the post to show up until later, and I also didn't understand how the save as/public versus private thing worked either, so I just put it out there. It's not that I made a worthless little post, and want to keep putting it up because no one looked at my worthless posts the first time, I just want to put it up once when there are more people on the site. Now that I know how to time the release, it won't happen again.

My opinion on reposts? Doing it once in a while is okay, but honestly I think it should only be done when it gets buried. Like if you spent a little while writing a nice article and it got buried under a stream of dance party gifs, repost it. Posted your article at 2 AM? Leave it where it is. People will find it. And don't repost it more than once, that seems desperate and frankly it's annoying. Only exception is if the post is about something where notifications are necessary like an upcoming meet.
To repost your own post you can do two things: you can share it to oppo using the dropdown next to the recommend star and view count, that'll just 'bump' it and essentially embed the original post. Alternatively you can edit the post and change the time on the post, I think that republishes it at the time you set.
You can schedule posts, and people need to do that more often. Instead of reposting because you posted too late at night, just schedule it for 10 AM. I do that all the time, my post gets seen at the time I want it but I do all the work at my convenience.

Thanks. Now that I know how to delay the post times, I'll just do that in the future. Learning experiences, right?

I treat oppo like an RSS feed, so I see everything even if I wasnt around when it was posted.

It's fine. You either share to Kinja saying you're reposting, or near the top of the article click the tiny triangle, click edit, scroll down, and change the publication date.

What I do is go to "edit post" and change the posting time to whenever you want. Always works for me!

Normally youre right (thanks for enlightenening me by the way) but I think there should be reasonable exceptions to that rule. Like in this instance where no one read it and the poster was unaware that he could schedule it for a later time
